Frequently Asked Questions

Q. I have a health condition, can I still access your services?

A. Jono, our lead weight management consultant, has a Diploma in Exercise Referral (level 3). This means he has the knowledge to ensure safe and effective exercise programming for individuals with a number of medical conditions. All service users will also complete a PAR-Q (Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire) prior to beginning any exercise programme.

Q. Why should I choose Your Weigh Forward?

A. We are a specialist weight management service and our approach to weight loss really does work - not just in the short-term but long-term too. You'll feel welcome and at ease at our purpose-built facility, plus you'll have the sole use of our facility for all your one to one appointments.

Q. Is Your Weigh Forward Evidence Based?

A. Our programmes are developed in line with Obesity Prevention NICE Clinical Guideline (CG43) Research Recommendations, Published Date: December 2006 and Weight management:lifestyle services for overweight and obese adults, Public health guideline (PH53), Published May 2014.

Q. My friend had great success following a weight loss plan that they found online. I tried it and it didn't work for me. Why not?

A. There isn't one plan that works for everyone, we are all very different. That's why at Your Weigh Forward we make all of our one to one plans personalised enabling you to achieve your goals.

Q. If I eat less and exercise more will that be enough to lose weight and body fat?

A. Weight loss is very complex and often eating a bit less and exercising a bit more isn't always enough. What we eat, how stressed we are, how much sleep we get and what type of exercise we do are just a few of the things that need to be considered.

Q. I've tried so many diets that work initally but I just can't stick to them, why is it that I can't keep the weight off?

A. If the diet is completely different to your usual food intake then you're unlikely to be able to stick to it. You can't change, or stop, a lifetime habit just like that. A better and more successful long term approach is to slowly improve different aspects of your current eating habits. Don't change too much too soon. We can guide you through this process and help you to pinpoint the changes you can make to produce the best results.

Q. My Body Mass Index (BMI) is 23 can you still help me to lose weight?

A. We specialise in helping individuals to lose weight and body fat who have a BMI of 25 or above. If you have a BMI that is below 25 we can still help you to improve your diet, exercise levels and health. If you are unsure of your BMI you can work it out on the NHS Choices BMI calculator: http://www.nhs.uk/Tools/Pages/Healthyweightcalculator.aspx
